Now, once you’re done with editing and proofreading, it’s time to format your manuscript for Kindle Direct Publishing.
You need to have a book with the clean formatting of the interior text, front matter, back matter, and a cover.
You can either do your own formatting or hire professional formatters from Upwork or Freelancer.com.
If you are doing your own formatting, the one software that can help you is Scrivener. Scrivener is a writing tool designed for authors only. It formats all kinds of fiction and nonfiction books breezily. You need not to worry about creating your table of contents if you are formatting your book in Scrivener.
Scrivener is a paid software. It’s a Literature and Latte Produce and you can buy it online in just $50. However, if you don’t want to invest money in buying Scrivener, you can always use Microsoft Word document for formatting. You can even upload your MS Word manuscript into KDP. There are no limitations for this.
To make your book publish-ready, you either get your cover designed by a professional cover designer or you can do it on your own.
If you are doing it on your own, the one tool that comes very handy is Canva cover creation tool. It’s an online cover creating software that designs awesome-looking covers for Kindle books.
And guess what, you don’t have to rob a bank for this, Canva offers both free as well as Paid Cover Design templates. You can either go for free or pay just $1 to utilize beautiful looking cover templates.
You can also use KDP cover creator tool to design the cover of your book while you upload your book on KDP.
Now, once you have a cover ready and your book meets all the requirements of formatting for KDP, it’s time to upload your book on KDP.
Kindle Direct Publishing – Self Publishing Your Book on Amazon
Log into kdp.amazon.com with your Amazon username and password. If you don’t have an Amazon account, please open one before proceeding.
Once inside the bookshelf, you can choose Kindle ebook under Create a New Title heading and begin uploading your book on KDP.
The further process is pretty much self-explanatory. However, if you need assistance, you can always contact KDP Support Staff for help.
Once you hit publish on KDP, your book will be submitted to KDP for review. It takes around 24 to 48 hours for your book to appear on all Amazon marketplaces including Amazon India, US, UK, Australia, and so more.
Once your book goes live, write down a post on FB, Twitter, and Instagram informing your friends and followers about your first book release. Do share your book’s Amazon buy link. Also, write a blog post sharing a blurb and excerpt of your book with a call to action (buy link) at the bottom of the post.
Keep on promoting your book on all social media platforms. Do shameless promotion. Utilize the power of Social Media Marketing and post regularly 2 to 3 posts on Facebook Authors and Readers Groups.
You can even run Facebook ads specifically targeted to your target readers. But first get a knack on writing a copy for an FB ad. Try to explore your copywriting skills. You got to have a well-written copy if you want to gain benefit from Facebook ads.
I hope that’s pretty much about formatting, cover, and publishing your book on KDP. If you need any help or have any questions, do leave your reply and I would love to answer them.
