All of us have untold stories within us. Some of us put them on the papers, some sulk. Some of us arrange our randomly scribbled thoughts into books, some procrastinate. Some of us are courageous enough to bring our books to the market, some can’t help but to bash and criticize.
But, if you’ve got the courage of pouring your heart and brain out on the blank sheets of paper, I think you’ve got the nerves to withstand all the initial criticism and make your book a bestseller. Things that keep us away from tasting the sweet nectar are sulking, cursing the circumstances, excuses, and looking for constraints rather than battling our ways out to success.
Writing a book is not an overnight task. It requires months of hard work, discipline, and motivation. And, if you’ve done that, you’ve got everything to celebrate. Praise yourself. Spin lose. Go out. Pamper yourself. Let your new-found happiness engulf you within before sharpening your sword for the next battle ahead.
Yeah, the next battle is to publish your book. But, believe me, it’s not a battle anymore. Gone are the days when authors had to run after the publishing houses or agents. Though traditional publishing has its own benefits and many of you still prefer that route, self-publishing has changed the entire landscape of publishing industry.
With numerous self-publishing platforms, publishing a book is just a few clicks away. In the changed scenario, authors don’t have to face endless months to hear from the publishing houses. Neither, they have to write endless query letters to impress the literary agents.
All they need to do is to know how to exploit the technology and use it for their maximum benefits. Today, self-publishing platforms like KDP, Nook Press, Kobo Writing Life, and Smashwords give authors the freedom of reaching millions of readers, worldwide without spending a penny.
I know many of you don’t know how to go about and thus prefer hiring an independent publisher to do the work. But, when you can do the thing yourself why pay thousands of bucks to these publishing companies. Instead, you can invest that money in marketing.
As I said, there is a multitude of options, the one I’m talking about today is KDP.
Kindle Direct Publishing is Amazon’s self-publishing platform. All the books published through KDP will directly appear on Amazon sites all over the world. People from any part of the world can see and buy your books, and the royalties will come directly to your linked bank account. Isn’t it amazing that you publish your book in India and people from US, UK, Canada, and Australia can buy your books?
I personally have a great experience with KDP. I have sold my books, including those I have written under my pen name, not only in India but in all the above-mentioned countries including Germany and France.
If you also want to avail the benefits of KDP and want to reach millions of readers worldwide, you need to have a KDP account. You can use your Amazon customer user name and password to open a KDP account.
Once you have the account, you need to fill up the required information. As the process is pretty much self-explanatory, anyone can do this on their own. Once done, you can upload your book content along with the cover and within 72 hours KDP will publish your title on various Amazon sites.
Publishing on KDP helps you to market your book as well. Amazon offers its authors a unique book promotion program-—KDP select.
Under KDP select you can have two kinds of promotional plans. The Kindle countdown deal and free promotion. You can use these promotional plans from time to time to market your book both as free and on discounted rates.
So, you see how easy it is to self-publish your book on KDP.
