It would be great if you can add this book to your TBR

Reshma Ranjan is a passionate romantic who loves literature and has been driven by the romance around her. She has made up her own happy endings in her imagination for every movie and for every book with a sad ending.

“Slowly I started to create my own characters and situation, creating a world of romance and happy endings to my liking. But for my laziness, I would have penned umpteen numbers of stories with unexpected people meeting and falling in love and uniting for a lifetime.”

Also a voracious reader but for which she believes she could never have started writing. “If I can bring a smile and a happy sigh on at least one reader’s lips I will feel a blessed writer.”

Book Review – Destined by Rubina Ramesh

Destined by Rubina Ramesh is a story of young and beautiful Esha Mehra and her billionaire boss Rohan.

It’s a sweet love story with a happily ever after. I loved the premise and the settings of the novel.

The story is set in the city of Bangalore, though there was very little that we get to know about the city. I would love to read more about the Southern city of India. The smell, the weather, the people, and the culture. There was nothing that could describe the true spirit of the IT city.

However, the book flows well and the story is engaging. The characters of Rohan is not very well drawn, but I found myself rooting for Esha. She emerges as a bold and confident woman.

The story, in the beginning, felt predictable and more or less sounded like an alpha billionaire romance. However, it took a sudden unexpected turn with the introduction of Zaira Wadia, Rohan’s stepmother. Now, there’s a twist in the stepmother thing, and I would like you to explore the book and find out who exactly Zaira Wadia is.

The dialogues are well written and sounded typical as Indians speak and communicate.

At the end, Rubina Ramesh’s Destined has everything in it. It has drama, intrigue, romance, and spicy love scenes. The book beautifully portrays the father-daughter bond.

I loved the playful banter between the lead couples and their constant ego clashes felt like a chocolate icing on a creamy dessert. From me, the book can easily claim 4 stars.

Esha Mehra could have taken care of her father, only if she had some support from her fiancé. But he had his priorities set and her sick father was nothing but a burden. Esha didn’t have any other choice but to apply for a loan from her office. But she had not banked on the fact that the Head of Geno Technologies needed her for other reasons.

When Rohan Sharma saw Esha for the first time, he felt she was the one. He had no intention of falling in love with her for the pain of the past was still too much to bear.
But he did need Esha as a decoy to his plan. But Esha was not a damsel in distress who would bend to his will easily. While he was sure that he would marry her only for six months, he still couldn’t understand why he felt a searing jealousy every time, her ex-fiancé Ayush’s name was mentioned.

While these two souls had other plans in their lives, Destiny conspires to bring them together. But will the stench of Death let them live their lives?

Read an excerpt:

On seeing her, he grinned. “There goes my dream of my bride sitting on the bed with a long veil over her face that I could slowly lift up.”

Esha laughed. “Do it in your real wedding.”

Rohan felt a jolt at her words though his feelings had stopped making any sense at all. He found her pajama-clad wet avatar very sensual. Her hair was wet from the shower and a few droplets fell on her collarbone, like dew drops on a rose petal. Now that he was finally alone with Esha, he wanted to further muss up her hair and kiss those wet pearls away. But never had he imagined that he would be alone in a room with her amidst roses and that her intoxicating perfume would drive him crazy. Theirs wasn’t a marriage in the true sense and yet her lips were calling out to him to feel them with his own.

But he was sure that she wouldn’t appreciate it. He forced himself to lean back on the pillow and give her an easy smile to fight his raging hormones. “So, which side of the bed is yours?”

She looked at him sharply to check if he was laughing at her predicament. She then went to her purse and took out a tape—a big, brown one.

“Naughty, naughty,” he said sitting up, suddenly feeling the air crackling between them with an invisible electric thread that was slowly pulling them towards each other. “What’s your intention darling?”

Esha gave him an evil grin and sashayed towards him, all the while opening the tape. “You didn’t think I would be prepared?” she asked, her voice husky. Any hot-blooded man would find this a big turn-on but Rohan sat up straight, wondering if she was drunk.
“Esha, I think we should go to sleep now.” He gave her a sheepish smile. “It’s getting very late.”

She threw back her head and laughed, “The night is still young, darling.” She opened the tape further and climbed on the bed, inching slowly towards him as she rolled it out. Rohan could feel his heart skipping a few beats. He wanted her no doubt, but he was not expecting this and her strange behavior made him uncomfortable.
“Do you want something to eat?” He sounded lame even to himself. She threw her head back and looked at him, her sherry colored eyes darkening into molten chocolate, and the light breeze from the window caught her silk tresses and made them dance to a tune of their own. She bit her lower lip and leaned in front of him, staring deep into his eyes. “Are you nervous?”

“Why are you behaving like this?” he asked, trying to get out of the bed. He felt an invisible hand clutching his stomach but he kept his tone breezy. “Are we taking this night to mean what it is meant to be? I’m ready if you are.”

If she took another step forward, her breasts would touch him. What the devil was she playing at? He couldn’t even lean back further since the head rest was stopping any further movement. She leaned forward but instead of coming towards him, she went beyond him and stuck the edge of the tape to the middle of the bed post. She then pulled the tape down – further and further and a line was drawn along the middle of the bed.

An Author Interview of Rubina Ramesh

Hi Friends!

Today’s I’m sharing with you the excerpts of my author interview with the well-known contemporary romance author Rubina Ramesh. As the leading lady of the online book publicity group The Book Club, she doesn’t need any introduction. She is the sole and heart of the Indian Indie Publishing World. Anyone who happens to be the part of this closely-knitted family knows about her. But do you know that behind the persona of a disciplined and goal-oriented marketing and strategist lies an exceptionally interesting human being.

It was a celebrating moment for me when I got a chance to explore the interests and hobbies of Rubina Ramesh. She’s not only bold and confident in her spoken words but her fierceness can be easily seen in her strong and courageous women characters that she creates with penchant.

She’s an achiever, a dreamer, and a problem solver and my interaction with her wasn’t just concentrated on writing and marketing. It was funny, motivational, and was more like a casual and friendly chit chat. So, here’s the glimpse of her life as an adventurer, a wayward traveler, a family person, and of course as a proud indie author. Blog Tour by The Book Club of DESTINED by Rubina RameshRubina Ramesh is an avid reader, writer, blogger, book reviewer and marketer. She is the founder of The Book Club, an online book publicity group. Her first literary work was published in her school magazine. It gave her immense pride to see her own name at the bottom of the article. She was about 8 years old at that time. She then went to complete her MBA and after her marriage to her childhood friend, her travel saga started. From The Netherlands to the British Isles she lived her life like an adventure. After a short stint in Malaysia, she finally settled down in the desert state of USA, Arizona. Living with her DH and two human kids and one doggie kid, Rubina has finally started living the life she had always dreamed about – that of a writer.

Excerpts of the Interview:

Me: Can you please share your self-publishing success story with your fans?

Rubina: Dear Mariyam, Thanks for these wonderful questions. Self-publishing was choice for me. Not a place where I landed up because publishers rejected me. I wanted something where I had the control of my book, my destiny and of course my story. When I entered this line there were already a few established writers but still, the competition was not that high. Of course, writers were there but only a few had tasted success. One thing I understood quickly – this is not a place where you put up your shoddy and unedited work. You have to take care of your book cover, editing and treat your complete manuscript as a complete product. And all these things you can do only if you enjoy the journey. Every aspect of it.  Once an author realizes the amount of work this platform demands – you are then only an indie author. Definitely not something that one can pay for to others and forget nor expect others to do for you.

Me: Your dialog writing skills are meticulous, smooth, and flawless, something that doesn’t come to non-native English speakers naturally. Could you share the art of writing dialogues with budding writers out there?

Rubina: Thanks for this huge compliment. I really don’t know what to say to this. The only thing I can say is I don’t translate from Hindi to English in my mind – which many still do in India. Even though I do use a spattering of colloquial language, I don’t vest any humor or emotions on those lines. It’s a word here or there to showcase the roots of a character. I am a writer who writes in English. I have to always respect that in my own writing. Once again, thanks for this compliment.

Me: Why romance. Why not Sci-Fi, Action, Crime, or Thriller. Do you think women especially Indian women fantasize more about having a perfect man, a fairy tale love affair, and a happily ever after?

Rubina: My first book an anthology is a psychological thriller. I am planning a horror and another psychological thriller. But romance is my weakness. What is there not to love about love? 😀 We spread enough hatred and fear in our lives, so if I can inject love into anyone’s life even for a few hours, then why not. And who does not dream of a happily ever after? I write to offer escapism from their pain, yet I try to hold on to one reality in my book. The reality of commitment under any circumstances. I don’t like writing about unnecessary sexual content but if my scene demands it – I am not shy about it. But having said that I truly believe that every man and woman out there either hate love or search for love. So how can I go wrong with writing romance?

Me: As an indie author what marketing skills one should have to gain a foothold in the publishing industry?

Rubina: This is something that I tell every indie author. Your success and your failures are your own. You can’t blame anyone for it. If you feel you are going down, perk up and fight back. You can do a hundred facebook ads, you can hire the best publicist out there, but everything is momentary. You need something or someone who will constantly promote you – and that person is only you. The indie publishing world is pretty close-knit. We are not perfect. We have our moments of jealousy and anger. Of humiliation and jubilation but we never forget our roots – that we are indie authors. This is one place where one should never come because one has no place to go – walk on this path only if you are ready to work hard. This is not a vanity publishing scenario, where you pay money and forget about your own book.

Me: Do you begin writing a book with a particular target group in mind?

Rubina: No, never. That is again a restriction and as an indie author, we are fighting against restrictions. I want to write stories in every genre if possible. (Wishful thinking) There are so many stories to tell, why curtail yourself?

Me: I know it’s the sixth question, but I have so many more 🙂 How do you manage your time with family, writing, and other things?

Rubina: Would you believe if I say I sleep for 3 to 4 hours only? 😀 I am into marketing of books for other authors too and both marketing and writing are my passions. Kids are my passion, My hubby is my passion. So if you see, I am a person driven my passion. 😀 I suppose when you love everything around you, you will always find time for it.

Thanks once again for these wonderful questions Mariyam and I wish you all the very best in your future endeavors. I know there is a book coming along somewhere – I can sense it 😀 haha . all the best.

She signs off…

Romantic Short Story: Bloody Passion

Title: Bloody Passion

Episode 1 Link

Episode 2 Link

Episode 3 Link

Last and Final Episode of 4 part romantic short story series

Warning: The story contains adult content

I saw Rajveer and Jahnvi kissing each other. The ass that used to be my property was now in Rajeev’s palm, and he was mincing and kneading it with his bony fingers as their kiss deepened.
I was tricked. She used me. They used me.
“Arent’ we getting late?” Payal came in. She looked outstandingly beautiful in an orange blouse and black pencil skirt. Orange was Jahnvi’s favorite color.
I still missed Jahnvi and our relationship, but I couldn’t forget how she tricked me for her own personal gains. In fact, both Rajveer and Jahnvi used me as a pawn. But I was no pawn. I was the king of my own game.
“Yeah, let’s get going,” I replied, rising up from my office chair.
Payal took my offered arm in her hand smilingly as we trod down the hallway. I threw a sweeping glance at my team, busy working in the cubicles. It was a full house tonight. All cabins were occupied too. But, there was one cabin that was still empty, and that was Jahnvi’s cabin. Nobody could take her place, neither in my office nor in my heart. I loved her, but she chose to betray. It was her betrayal that forced me to weave a conspiracy against her and her lover, Rajveer.
I told the cops how the three of us planned for Akash’s murder. I regretfully declared myself innocent putting the blame of killing on Rajveer and Jahnvi.
Their lawyers were still trying to prove them innocent while I was roaming free with my new secretary, much younger and more beautiful than Jahnvi.

Book Review: Because of You By Connie Lafortune

Book Review: Because of You by Connie LafortuneThis is my second book by Connie Lafortune. In fact, it is the author’s debut work, so I was thrilled when I got a chance of reading Because of You after Bound by Steel.

I was mesmeric after reading Bound by Steel, and I don’t embarrass in saying that I often open it on my e-reader and devour it in my leisure time. It’s such a heart-warming passionate read.

OK, so this review is about Because of You and I think I should stop my obsession with Bound by Steel if at least for a while until I put this review together.

So, let’s begin. Ok, I have started doing critical review. And though I don’t find anything to be critically acknowledge in Because of You, I will still try to assess it critically. However, it’s a different thing that the book left me spellbound by its writing, the characeterization, and the vivid portrayal of human emotions as if everything was happening in front of my eyes.

As you know, I review books in the light of few pointers, so here goes my review for Because of You

Plot and Storyline: It’s a story of Riley and Hunter. Riley moves to her Dad’s house in Southern Carolina where she meets Hunter and the two instantly fall in love with each other. Hunters wants to express his love but has his own haunting past which he thinks can hurt Riley. Riley, on the other hand, is drawn towards Hunter like a moth to a flame. Their affection grows and finally, the lovebirds succumbs to the growing desires for each other unknown what future has in store for them.

The plot is old but the story treatment is new and appealing. The plot is tightly woven and there are no loose ends where the reader feels bored. It kept my attention intact from the beginning till end. It has some cleverly done twists at the end of the book and the surprize ending just acts like an icing on the top of melt-in-the-mouth cheesecake 😊

The love scenes are well written and don’t seem like an erotica. They are sensual yet graceful, but I loved to read more about the emotional gestures and playful banter Riley and Hunter shared with each other. Their care, emotions, and love all expressed vividly and the entire read was no less than watching an emotional and passionate romantic movie.

Characters: Both Riley and Hunter have their own traumatic pasts and suffer from panic attacks and nightmares. This brings them even closer. The characterization was strong. Characters are well-developed and realistic. It’s not easy to describe character in all the three dimensions, but Connie has done this with elan.

I loved Riley from the beginning and can relate with her. In fact, often it feels like I am reading about my own self. Like her, whenever something goes wrong it feels I am responsible for it. This often makes me feel guilty.

I loved the way Hunter makes her realize that it’s not always her fault.

Like Bound by Steel where I fell in love with Ryker, in Because of You I couldn’t stop fantasizing about Hunter 😊. He made my heart gallop. I typically loved the scenes where he was so caring and loving to Riley. For instance, when he was taking care of her at his home after Riley suffered a terrible panic attack. That scene was beautifully written and very emotional that it gave me a tingle.

I liked the character of Scott. However, I wanted to read more about him and his relationship with Riley. I wanted to read about Kathy and also about Hunter’s parents and grandparents.

Scenes and Narrative Summary (Shows verses Tell and Pacing)

The scenes are crafted beautifully and the scene to narrative transition is smooth and seamless. Author has succeeded in creating a fine balance between scene and narrative. There’s a fine balance between Show and Tell and nothing feels overdone or lengthy.

The descriptions of the places and events and even characters are to the point. There are no lengthy descriptive that can compel the readers to skim pages. Again, I will say it were the emotions between the couple that made me swipe one page after another of this passionate romantic tale.

I fell in love with the book and with its characters. It was such an enjoyable read and still, I am not able to take my mind off of Riley and Hunter’s sizzling chemistry, their love and care for each other. The book succeeded in describing what true love is.

Overall Assessment: The plot has depth. It is well crafted with no room for improvement. The story is well structured. It slows down and picks up pace as and when required compelling reader not to stop reading.

The lead characters are strong and well developed. There’s an emotional connection between them, and the best thing is that you can feel strongly about both Riley and Hunter.

However, there’s room for improvement in the cover of the book.

Apart from cover, I don’t think there’s anything that can stop me from rating this book 5 stars. This book doesn’t deserve anything less than that.

So, if you’re looking for a passionate and emotional romance for the weekend, Because of You fits the bill.

Christmas Celebrations: How to Make a Christmas Gift Basket At Home

It’s again the same time of the year that takes me back into the past. I love this season. The festive season. The time of happiness and cheerfulness.

Christmas has always been my favorite festival. It’s the perfect time of the year when you can make people happy and enjoy giving. Weeks before Christmas, I start reminiscing about my old college days. We studied in a Christian Missionary School, and it was Christmas that had me so many fond memories of that time.

We usually had Christmas celebrations starting in the first week of December. It would start with white gift service followed by Christmas carols, skits, plays, finally culminating into a Christmas extravaganza just a day before the holidays.

In those days, the idea of Christmas gift baskets wasn’t very common. People usually presented gift boxes that hardly had any room for innovation.

Of late, the gift baskets have grown much in popularity. They help you in customizing your gift as you present them to your friends and relatives.

You can make these baskets in many ways. They can even be used once the gifts inside of them are taken out.

You can find these gift baskets at all gift stores along with Christmas stars and wreathes but you can be more creative by making a Christmas gift basket at home by using other items. Isn’t it interesting if you create an innovative gift basket that isn’t a true basket? All it needs is some planning and a hint of creativity.

You can utilize different bases to keep your gifts rather than a conventional basket. For instance, if anybody in your family loves cooking, you can gift her with kitchen things filled into a crockpot. Fill the crockpot with all the kitchen items you are planning to gift and add a few sparkles and a bow to it so that it looks really special.

What is Friendship? In the light of Philosophy

There was a line in John Donne’s famous prose Meditation 17.

“No man is an island.”

This line truly expresses the need of a friend in a man’s life. Indeed, there is no one who can live alone on this planet. That is the reason God has made different types of relationships, for instance, friendship. Friendship is one of the best types of relationships that a person can have.

If you want to know the true meaning of friendship, you should look at its definition and think about the significance and virtues of a true friend.  Many philosophers of the bygone era such as Aristotle had talked about friendship in detail.

As indicated by Aristotle, nobody will ever pick to live without a friend. This thought from Aristotle throws light on the fact that why people with all the power and wealth are, most of all in need of a true companion.

He even included that what might be the use of those possessions when you don’t have anybody to share the joy of being prosperous. Apart from being your well-wisher, a true friend will also help you guard and protect your prosperity. Friends are more commendable to men in their hard times, in times of poverty and despair, for they can see their friends as their only place of refuge.

“Friendship is as important as life itself.” ~As quoted by Aristotle, intense and strong.

Friendship covers everyone, old and young, poor and wealthy. It covers the breath of the kinds of individuals you find within the society.

What is Friendship? In the light of Philosophy, www.mariyamhasnain.comTruth be told, rich men require friends the most as they will become the loneliest souls on earth without a true friend. Friendship reduces the risk of destructive behavior, depression, anxiety and other common ailments that a person can suffer when he is alone.

This can be proven because in hard times you will simply look for some help from your true friend.

With this thought, you can already imagine that friendship enhances your life since it improves you as a person. In you endeavor to help or serve your friends, you grow and achieve mental strength and maturity as a human being. This makes you a better and kind individual.

These facts of philosophy are good enough to explain you the importance of true friends in your life.

And it is said, “A girl without a friend is a like a fish without water, a bird without feathers.”

So if you adore your friends and cherish your friendship with them, here’s my new novel “The Wedding Planner,” that celebrates the very emotion of friendship and what it take to be a good friend. It explains the true meaning of friendship and love.
