Week #2

Title: How to Lose a Guy

“I love him, I love him not.

“I love him, I love him not.

“Oh, Shit, I love him. Do I really love him?

“I don’t know. It’s just been three months, and his possessiveness has started bothering me. What to do with this Yasir named adhesive gel?”

Ezra asked Jasmine as she irritatingly plucked the last of the rose petal and tossed the twig in the overgrown wild bushes of the campus backyard.

“I think you better dump him and walk off. Three months! I swear I can’t go beyond one month with the same guy.” Jasmine raised her eyebrows taking a sip of her diet Coke.

“I know dear with so many attractive faces roaming around, it’s not wise to stick with a single guy. But, there should be a reason for the breakup. And, all my breakup skills fail when it comes to Yasir.” Ezra threaded her hair with her fingers leaning against the back of the backyard bench.

Romantic Short Stories: Your Weekly Dose of Flash Fiction, Week #2“He’s a mind controller it seems. Why don’t you ask him to meet you at a coffee shop and then turn up with a hot-looking guy, you know.” Jasmine nibbled on her sandwich as she handed the Coke can to Ezra.

“Foolish. Think something else,” Ezra said before sipping the cold drink.

“Okay…How about this – You go with him but drool over other hot-looking dudes. I’m sure he’ll dump you. I’m telling you – this trick works amazingly well with possessive assholes.”

“This sounds awful.”

“Fine, the last – you kiss his best friend making sure he watches you while you do the act.”

“I can’t kiss his best friend.” Ezra painfully curved her lips.

“Why?”

“Because Chirag has chapped lips, and he also suffers from gingivitis. Yasir told me once. Yuck!”

“Oh! God save his girlfriend from getting bleeding gums.” Jasmine took a deep breath as she grabbed the Coke can from Ezra.

Bring Bring

Ezra’s cell phone vibrated in her purse.

“Talk of the devil and the devil’s here. It’s Chirag,” Ezra muttered as she swiped the cell phone to attend Chirag’s call.

“What? How? Where?” She fired a series of questions on the caller as she rose to her feet and ran towards the main college premises.

“Yeah, I’m coming where is he?” Keeping the cell phone closer to her ear, she hastily ran to the interior courtyard while Jasmine tailed her till the end of the crowded hallway.

“What happened? You’re running like a shepherd boy who has lost all his sheep in the jungle.” Jasmine called her from behind.

“Yasir not well. He met with an accident. He’s sitting in the canteen.”

“Canteen?,” Jasmine’s eyes narrowed and her eyebrows grew V. “He should be in the hospital. What is he doing in the canteen? Eating samosas huh?”

“It’s a minor one silly. I need to go see him.”

“This is the time silly. Don’t bother and he’ll think you don’t care and will finally leave you.”

“This isn’t the time Jass. Hope he’s alright.” Her eyes glazed as she strode towards the college canteen.

Week – 1

Title: A U-Turn

Rains lashed onto my bare back as I scooped up her fragile frame and carried her out of the car. Perhaps, she’d passed out, couldn’t endure the pain she suffered.

Perhaps, she just pretended to be asleep. Never wanted to face the reality. Never wanted to see the man who left her alone in the dark of the night.

All alone, I didn’t know how long she waited for me.

Not bothering to look at her exposed thighs hidden scantily under my shirt, I made my way to the front door of the house.

She whined under the fur blanket as I cleaned the scars and bruises with warm water.

Signs of sufferings, a brutal assault. Someone had robbed my soul, assaulted the woman I loved the most.

Fuck.

I couldn’t protect her.

Monsters hidden underneath human skin ran away when I reached the spot where I left her.

A casual argument.

I didn’t realize when it transformed into a battle of sexes. Rants of feminism and gender equality. She forced me to pull over.

I could have stopped her, could have apologized. But, I did nothing when she got out of the car.

Instead of waiting for her to cool down, I drove away. It was an hour later I realized my mistake and took a U-turn in haste.

She quivered inside the blanket. Her whimpers communicated the trauma she bore on her soul.

“I’m here baby,” I whispered in her ear, caressing the entangled mess of her hair.

She opened her eyes.

Tears slid down the corners of her eyes.

“I lost it. I struggled but I lost it. They were four.” Her words pierced needles in my ears, shredding my skin and exposing the bones underneath.

“Calm down sweetie. You need rest. Shall I get something for you? How about a cup of hot chocolate.”

“I need you. Promise me you’ll never leave me again even when I tell you to go away. Even when I fight with you. Promise me you’ll tackle my tantrums. Hold me in your arms when I’m angry. Kiss me when I cry.”

“I Promise sweetheart. Do I deserve an apology?” I asked my gaze dipping to the carpet.

She held my hands. “Have you informed the cops?”

“Not yet. Do you want to do it now or we can go tomorrow,” I replied meeting her gaze.

Romantic Short Stories: A Weekly Dose of Flash Fiction, mariyamhasnain.com“Thanks,” she said, her eyes glistening.

“Thanks for what?”

“I thought you perhaps don’t want to involve the police because of your reputation of a clean guy. It could be hard for you at work. Your social life. Your friends. They will question.”

“Nothing’s more important than you. Life’s all about taking a U-turn and starting afresh. Please allow me to take that turn where I’m just a teenage boy who is deeply madly in love with a girl.”

She looked in my eyes as my grip tightened on her hand.

“I’ll get some hot chocolate for us,” I said holding back my tears.

Men don’t cry, do they?

Begum Jaan Trailer: The Bold, The Ferocious, and the Verbally Assaulting First Look

The first teaser of Begum Jaan was released on March 14, 2017. Since then, it had been making rounds across all social media platforms.

As shown in the teaser, the movie is set against the backdrop of the historically significant partition of united India.

Set in the era of 1947, Begum Jaan’s story is about the lives of 11 women who wind up at the cusp of being ousted from their own home, a whorehouse, which lies on the LOC between the two recently isolated nations.

Besides cleavage revealing backless blouses, abusive language, and explicit portrayal of 1947 era sex workers, there’s much more in the first official Begum Jaan trailer.

The movie has an incredible ensemble of cast and crew. Besides Vidya Balan, the motion picture stars sensual Gauhar Khan and veteran actors like Rajit Kapoor and Naseeruddin Shah. The movie also features Chunkey Pandey, a surprise element, in his never-seen-before avatar.

And, if you have not noticed, I can’t resist telling you the movie’s title bears a striking resemblance with the yesteryears hit Rekha starrer Umrao Jaan. One more similarity between Begum Jaan and Umrao Jaan is that both movies have Naseerudin Shah in them. I think that much Gyaan about Jaan named movies is enough.

Hey, I missed one thing. Begum Jaan is a remake of Bengali movie Rajkahani. In which, the main lead was famous Bengali actress Rituparna Sengupta. I think that’s it for now.

Now, coming back to Begum Jaan, the beginning is significant and sounds realistic in the deep husky voice of Bollywood legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan.

Begum Jaan Trailer, mariyamhasnain, Begum Jaan Trailer: The Bold, The Ferocious, and The Verbally Assaulting First LookVidya Balan as always looks graceful despite spitting abuses and donning tousled hair and disheveled clothes. The lady has the charisma, no doubt in that.

Though, the leading lady has astoundingly done a great job in portraying the role of a brothel owner, the teaser and the story of the movie, though inspired by true life events, sound somewhat naïve and uncooked to me.

It is pretty obvious from the teaser the makers of the movie are trying hard to impress the audience. Explicit scenes and strong language are elements to create a sensation, not an impression that lingers longer on people’s mind. India is changing and so are the taste and choices of Indians. I think movie makers in the wake of making something meaningful misinterpret the audience.

No doubt, the movie tries to raise some burning issues and the neglect people faced during the era of partition, the teaser appears melodramatic only to sensationalize the masses through its cheap and tacky dialogue and nudity cashing on the controversial lifestyle of 1947 sex workers.

In my opinion, instead of gathering people’s attention towards the smoldering reality of the bygone era, the teaser is a mere representation of yet another so-called “bold movie” of Indian cinema.

That being said, the teaser stirs up some womanly emotions and I think that’s enough to compel people to go and sit nonchalantly in the air conditioned theater for 2 hours or perhaps more than 2, perhaps 3 or even more. Oh, is it that long?

Jokes apart, Begum Jaan’s release date is 14 April 2017. Just to keep you informed! Kidding!! Go and watch the drama of Bold Indian Cinema.

Why Muhammad Ali Jr. was Detained Again?

Will religiously profiling the son of “The Greatest” make America safe?

A month after, Muhammad Ali Jr. was detained by immigration officials at Florida Airport, the son of the boxing legend was held and questioned again at Washington, D.C’s Reagan National Airport. He was boarding a domestic flight.

The first time Muhammad Ali Jr. and his mother were held at the airport in the month of February this year. After arriving from Jamaica, both Muhammad Ali Jr. and his mother Khalilah Ali (Muhammad Ali’s second wife) were pulled aside. They were the only two who had been detained of all the arriving passengers.

Ali Jr. is one of the nine kids of late boxing legend Muhammad Ali. Ali Jr. was born in 1972 in Philadelphia. He has a US passport, and he lives in Florida. According to the family lawyer, Ali Jr was never detained before.

Muhammad Ali Jr.It is obvious that this detention occurred in the aftermath of Trump’s travel ban. Ali was held and questioned about his name, his origin, and his religious beliefs. What comes shockingly is even though Ali is a US citizen and carries a legal US passport, he is being treated like an outsider and questioned like a non-US citizen traveling to the United States.

Why does this happen? Why the citizens of the same country are treated indifferently depending on their names and religion. Why so much of segregation? When its time to unite and stand high against fundamental issues, democratically elected representatives are playing petty politics. It’s high time folks, instead of imposing your shaky policies and assaulting the general public in name of caste, creed, religion, and origin, do something in favor of the country’s whole population.

It is important to understand the ethical significance of democracy. Just by going to polls and having a democratic election doesn’t make any country democratic.

Writing Jobs – Read this Before You Choose Writing as a Career

Writing makes the world go round – If you don’t trust that simply take a look around you. Wherever you look, words are being used to tell a story, portray something, show us the way, give legal protection, furnish you with news, and the list goes on. Notwithstanding when you are watching the news, soap, or a movie, the storyline is made up of words – written or scripted by someone. The world is full of writing jobs.

Writers are in great demand. It’s a profession that will always remain in trend. No matter how modern or technologically advanced we become or where future takes us – words will always be required. If you’ve been considering a career as an author you’ve likely been asking yourself whether you have what it takes to be a successful author.

Becoming an accomplished writer goes more distant than simply having the correct training or formal education. A few people never go to college and have a god’s gift for writing. Others go to college obtain degrees in Journalism or English and think they have covered all the technical aspects of writing during their formal education, but don’t have the skills to compose any story. So, don’t choose writing on the mere basis of your educational qualifications.

We should start with a tough question here. Have you composed anything in your life that was published? Drew attention? Have you ever been involved with article writing? Narrated a story that others loved and engaged in? Here, we aren’t discussing paid gigs. Simply writing all in all. Is it true that you are a decent story teller? Do you do well at collecting facts and sharing that data with others? Pause for a moment to analyze your strengths and weaknesses.

Fiction or Nonfiction – Choose What Interests You, What you want to read

A few people are fabulous fiction authors, while others are incredible journalists. Discover your specialty and pursue it. Try not to attempt to serve anything or everything. To have a passion in your composition that will attract readers, you have to write on things that interest you.

If you’ve been thinking about writing, it’s high time to get your feet wet. Take a plunge and begin. Don’t feel disappointed if you have a hard time getting any customer project in the beginning. There are tons of individuals calling themselves authors from around the world, thus potential customers have a tendency to be careful while hiring, particularly someone with no track record.

One approach to building a brand is to compose articles for one of the many article banks. Article writing is the first step before you begin with freelance writing and offer your services for various writing jobs online. The other approach is starting a blog. Regular blogging will help you gain a reputation over a period of time. Guest blogging is another way of building a portfolio.

Not everybody is good enough to be an expert author, yet who think they can’t be a successful writer, could be, if they just have faith in themselves.

That’s the end of today’s blog post. It’s kind of a blog marathon for me, posting every day. If you like what I write, please do comment.

It’s a great honor to listen from you. If you want to ask questions related to writing, publishing, and getting paid, please put them in the comment section below. I would be more than happy to answer them.

5 Unique Indian Beverages that will make you swoon

I love traveling and ever since my marriage, I’ve been constantly hopping state after state.

First, Andhra Pradesh, then Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Goa, Uttar Pradesh, and finally circling back to Karnataka.

Roaming across the Indian subcontinent tasting popular cuisines of the North to the little-known delicacies of the South, I often wondered what kind of beverages are made in the rustic kitchens of various Indian states.

And, to my surprise, my quest of knowing more about Indian beverages especially Indian home-made wines and beers opened an altogether different chapter of exploration.

There is a quite a number of beverages Indian people make at their homes. From Chang of Sikkim to the Kallu of Kochi, from the delicious thandai of Varanasi to the Rice Beer the Naga people make, Indian home-made beers and wines have their own unique tastes and ways of making.

My little research about Indian beverages yet again reminded me of the distinct and diverse cultures of Indian subcontinent. In this multicultural multiethnic country where each state and region have its language and cuisine, beverage making and drinking add more to the diversity of the nation. And, as their preparation methods and tastes differ from state to state, the rituals involved with wine or beer drinking are also quite peculiar and distinct to each region.

Indian beverages, mariyamhasnain, 5 Unique Indian Beverages that will make you swoon

Be it’s crushing the cashew apples or tapping the todi from the palms, the fermentations of the main raw produce or the traditions and cultures involved with drinking Indian homemade beers and wines, the Indan beverages boast the homely taste, ethnicity, and diversity. There’s an unsophisticated appeal to Indian wine and beer drinking, something that’s hard to find in the multitude of beverages served in the sophisticated bars and restaurants of all modern cities across the world.

  • Goan Feni: Goa is known for its white sand beaches, hospitality, and picturesque towns and villages. The one more thing that’s synonymous with Goa is Goan Feni. While cashew feni is made up of cashew apples, coconut feni is made by distilling the fermented toddy from the coconut palm. Being classified as country liquor, Goan feni is not allowed to be sold outside Goa, so if you want to taste the spirit of Goa, you have to visit this Western state of India.
  • South India’s Kallu: Also known as palm wine, Kallu is made and drank all across Southern India. Made typically by fermenting the toddy tapped from coconut and lala palms, Kallu is one of the mostly consumed Indian alcoholic drinks in all Southern states of the subcontinent. This traditional Indian drink is famous in the rural parts of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, and Kerala. However, the sale of Kallu is currently banned in Tamil Nadu.
  • Sikkim’s Chaang: Chaang is the drink of Northeast India, popular in parts of Eastern Himalayas and typically prepared by Lepcha tribe of Sikkim. A relative of beer, this hot drink is typically sipped from a bamboo tumbler. The semi-fermented seeds of millets are stuffed in a bamboo barrel. Boiling water is then poured onto them. The drink is then consumed using a narrow-bore bamboo tube or can be poured into bamboo mugs before serving.
  • Zutho: Usually consumed by the Naga people in the rural terrains of Nagaland, Zutho is also called the rice beer. Known for its fruity smell, the drink is considered to be the Naga version of Japanese sake. The rice beer contains approximately 5% ethanol and is very subtle, natural, and unique in taste. There is a unique tradition that Nagas follow before tasting the beverage. Nagas wrestle in the mud before they have their drink. It’s a major part of their tradition.
  • Varanasi Bhang Thandai: Thandai is a North Indian cold drink made up of milk, saffron, sugar, cardamom, rose petals, almonds, and fennel seeds. Thandai is a famous drink of Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan. When whole milk and groundnuts mixture is mixed with a small amount of bhang (cannabis leaves and buds), it results into a mildly intoxicated milk beverage that is called bhang thandai. Bhang thandai is often consumed during Indian festivals of Holi and Shivratri.

In India, beverage drinking is associated with cultures and traditions of the Indian soil, typically in rural India. Indian indigenous tribes and communities are preserving the Indian heritage of wine making and drinking by passing the unique legacy from one generation to the other.

Indian home-made wines and beers are known for their natural taste and rusticity. Despite modern technological advancements, Indians still practice the old methods of wine making at home. This explains the very existence of age-old methods of wine making and drinking in the rustic kitchens of rural India.

I hope you like what you read. If you’re a country wine lover, please do leave a comment about your favorite beverage. I would love to know if you’ve ever witnessed the actual process of wine making or tasted the fresh brew. Share your experiences and suggestions in the “Leave a Reply” box below.

Poems: A Quick and Easy Way to Express Love

There are numerous approaches to express love, and the slightest used path in today’s busy way of life is by utilizing poems. Sonnets are a fun approach to express love without being excessively pushy.

Frequently, the females tend to find is extremely satisfying when love is communicated in sonnets. Getting away from reality allows the poets to convey themselves in an exceptionally “colorful” manner. It’s a fascinating fact that this rather old technique for conveying love appears to impress the younger generations, most likely in view of its novelty factor.

Utilizing the web as a perfect stage for communicating one’s self through poetry will permit the person to approach and impress the fairer sex through these lyrics. For folks who are quite shy in conveying their feelings in different ways, romantic poetry can help them to communicate without feeling any kind of inhibition.

Poems: A Quick and Easy Way to Express Love MariyamHasnain @mariyamsnPoetry writing is just another compelling method to tell your beloveds they are in your thoughts, and this obviously is quite ego-boosting and heartwarming.

Love sonnets can really permit the creative side of a person to be showcased. This is an incredible stage for a creative soul who is keen on wooing the opposite sex, as most of the time it will be seen in a better light and also the individual penning the lyrics does not need to worry about being mocked or lampooned face to face.

Expressing your affection towards somebody is something that you can do in various ways. One method for getting your emotions through to the other individual is by composing short love poems, but if you are not so handy with sonnets, you perhaps need to attempt composing love letters. As a last resort, you can simply record your sentiments and present them to your loved one. Top 5 Romantic Dresses for the Day Out

This Valentine’s Day when we planned a day outing, I scratched my head as I stood in front of my closet. There was nothing to wear.

Does this happen with you where you have to go on a romantic date and you find nothing to wear? It happens to me most of the times.

Women are busy stuffing their wardrobes with plenty of evening gowns and cocktail dresses so much so, there’s no room or money left for a couple of romantic casual dresses.

You must be wondering what I wore for the day outing. Well, I ended up donning a pair of leggings and a loose T-shirt, not my favorites, though.

That very time, I decided I would invest some money in love shopping. Love shopping doesn’t mean buying gifts for your boyfriend or husband but for yourself. Isn’t it great? After all, women love shopping. And, when it comes to buying something for ourselves, a mere thought thrills us.

The next day, I did a little research and chose five romantic dresses I can wear for a romantic day outing. If you also face similar situation often, it’s time to give your wardrobe a complete makeover by donating old clothes and adding some love dresses to it.

Here are the five romantic day dresses I’m thinking of buying. How about you?

  • Floral Printed Straight Pants: Feminine and absolutely romantic, floral prints and patterns never lose their appeal. Instead of palazzos, go for floral printed straight pants this season. Team them up with matching T-shirt or blouse. White goes with everything. A vibrantly colored cotton straight pant can be teamed up well with a half-sleeved white blouse or a T-shirt. You’ll look sexy and spunky.
  • Skirts and Wraparounds: If you live near the beach, these are perfect for those long walks. Knee-length or ankle-length A-line skirts or trim wraparounds are enough to make a man weak in his knees.
  • Frocks: Flowing frocks can compliment all shapes and sizes and best of all, they fit every budget. Go for vibrant hues and floral prints. A brightly shaded frock will make you feel bold and confident.
  • Bodycon Dresses: You can also opt for body-hugging slim fit dresses. Go for a detailed neckline and accessorize it with a bracelet. Pair your outfit with matching heels and you’re all set for a sunny outing.
  • Jeans or Leggings: If you want to play it safe, a pair of blue jeans is evergreen. You can team it up with either plain or printed casual shirt, some dangling earring and you are ready for a carefree romantic day out.

I hope you agree with my picks. If you want to add anything or don’t agree with what I have chosen, please leave a reply. I would love to have some suggestions for my love shopping.

Bye for Now. Happy Shopping, I correct myself Happy Love Shopping!!

Best Moist Vanilla Cupcake Recipe – My Weekend Indulgence

Who doesn’t want to enjoy freshly baked cupcakes, cookies, and bread? Mouthwatering baked treats are everyone’s favorite. We generally get these goodies either from a store or a bakery but have you ever tried making any of them at home, right in your kitchen? Have you ever had freshly baked muffins straight out of the oven, piping hot and fluffy?

Many of us don’t want to try baking at home because it requires quite a lot of preparation and often a tedious task, especially, if you’re not much into cooking.

Why not try something that’s quick and easy. Yes, the recipe I’m sharing today is one of the easiest and quickest vanilla cupcake recipes to try. And, the best thing is it tastes divine, bursting with flavors.

Last weekend, I baked yummylicious, hard to resist fluffy vanilla cupcakes. They were so good that we couldn’t take our hands off and within minutes all six cupcakes were gobbled down. Thankfully, I managed to capture some of the pictures of those mouthwatering muffins just to cherish how beautiful they looked – hot just out of the oven.

So, today, I’m sharing those clicks along with the very easy recipe for my vanilla muffins. It’s easy, quick, and so delicious you can’t resist making them at home. Try it and you will be surprised with the result.

But before I switch into the recipe straight away, I want to give you one quick baking tip that is often overlooked or skipped. Believe me, this tip can not only help you simplify the baking process but assures you a taste – perfectly awesome and divine.

And, the tip is – Always weigh the ingredients first and then use them in your recipe. Weighing the ingredients to accurate measurement is the most significant yet crucial aspect of baking and one can’t and shouldn’t compromise on this. It’s better if you use a weighing scale. If you don’t have one and use spoons and cups for measurement, always convert the grams or ounces into the number or portion of spoons and cups.

You see, how important weighing is for baking. Now, let’s quickly come to the recipe.

Ingredients:

  • Butter 55 gm
  • Sugar 65 gm
  • Egg 1 large
  • Vanilla essence 1 teaspoon
  • All purpose flour 98 gm
  • Baking powder 1 teaspoon (level)
  • Milk 60 mL (1/4 cup)

How to Make:

  • Preheat the oven to 177 degrees C.
  • In a large bowl, beat together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy, beat in the egg and vanilla essence.
  • In another bowl, sieve together the flour and baking powder.
  • To the wet ingredients, whisk in the flour and milk, alternating with each other, starting with flour and ending with flour. Mix everything but avoid overmixing the batter even if you see some lumps as overmixing causes the formation of gluten. This results in rubbery and hard cupcakes.
  • Pour the batter into the cupcake molds and bake in a preheated oven for 17 to 20 minutes.

And, here you are…your yummy simple and easy vanilla cupcakes are ready to be grabbed.

Hope you like reading it and I’m sure you’ll love the taste and texture as they come out of the oven. Mine got finished within 15 minutes. Let’s see how long you’re gonna keep them safe 🙂

Happy Baking! Share the recipe if you like it.
